A surreal sculptural vessel by contemporary artist Sarah Zucker, Shoulderpads is a one-of-a-kind handmade art object from her 2024 collection, The Heavenly and The Earthly. Wheel-thrown and intricately sculpted, carved and glazed, this piece features an iridescent metallic surface and a boldly geometric silhouette, suggestive of fashion armor and futuristic regalia. Previously exhibited at Torrance Art Museum as part of In Media Res: Expanded, the work carries the presence of an ancient relic refracted through a glam sci-fi lens—exemplifying Zucker’s signature fusion of mythic symbolism and postmodern playfulness.
